Hyperpigmentation Tretment

As someone who has spent plenty of time enjoying the sun, I’ve also had my fair share of dealing with the aftereffects of prolonged sun exposure. Unfortunately, despite my best efforts with sunscreen and post-sun skincare routines, I developed areas of pigmentation on my face, especially around my cheeks and forehead. After trying various creams and treatments with limited results, I decided to explore laser treatments. That’s when I came across PicoSure.

My Journey to PicoSure

PicoSure is a non-invasive laser treatment known for targeting pigmentation, acne scars, wrinkles, and even tattoo removal. What attracted me to PicoSure was its advanced technology. Instead of the traditional thermal laser, PicoSure uses short bursts of energy to break down the pigmentation into smaller particles, which the body can then naturally eliminate. It sounded far more sophisticated and gentler than some of the older laser treatments I had researched.

But the big question I had before committing to the treatment was: “How many sessions would I need?” Like many people, I hoped for quick results, but I also knew that pigmentation issues often require a bit of patience.

My First PicoSure Session

During my first consultation, the practitioner carefully assessed my skin. She explained that the number of sessions I’d need would depend on the depth and size of my pigmentation. For lighter pigmentation, she mentioned that two to three sessions could be sufficient. However, in my case, where the pigmentation was more pronounced due to years of sun exposure, she recommended starting with three sessions and potentially reassessing afterwards.

The treatment itself was surprisingly quick. Each session took around 15 to 20 minutes, focusing on the areas where my pigmentation was most prominent. I won’t lie — the sensation during the procedure was a bit uncomfortable but certainly manageable. It felt like a small rubber band snapped against my skin, but nothing too intense. The practitioner also used an air-cooling device to soothe my skin afterwards, which helped ease any lingering discomfort.

Results After the First Few Sessions

After my first session of Picosure laser treatment, I was advised that the results wouldn’t be immediate. The skin pigmentation would gradually break down over the course of a few weeks. True to that prediction, I didn’t see much change in the first week. However, by the third week, I noticed subtle fading in the darker spots on my face.

After my second session, the results became more noticeable. My skin tone appeared more even, and the stubborn pigmentation that had bothered me for years was starting to lighten. It was around this point that I began to truly believe in the power of PicoSure. However, I still had some lingering spots that hadn’t completely faded, so I was glad to have another session planned.

Final Thoughts on the Number of Sessions

By the time I completed my third session, the results were remarkable. The majority of my pigmentation had significantly faded, leaving me with a more even complexion. For me, three sessions were sufficient to achieve my desired outcome, but the practitioner had been right — it very much depends on your skin and the severity of your pigmentation.

I’ve also learned that PicoSure isn’t a one-size-fits-all solution. While three sessions worked wonders for me, others might need more, especially if their pigmentation is deeper or if they have other skin concerns to address. The best approach is to consult with a professional who can tailor the treatment plan to your specific needs.

Post-Treatment Care

One thing I can’t emphasise enough is the importance of post-treatment care. After each session, I followed a strict skincare routine, including gentle cleansers, hydrating serums, and, of course, religious use of sunscreen. The practitioner warned me that sun exposure could trigger new pigmentation, so I became diligent about protecting my skin.

In conclusion, if you’re considering PicoSure for pigmentation issues as I did, be prepared for a personalised journey. While some may see dramatic improvements after just one or two sessions, others, like me, might need a few more. The results are worth the wait, and I’m thrilled with how much my skin has improved.
